Raul indulges in the grand history of the Raffles Hotel Le Royal in Cambodia | EIC On The Move
Cambodia is a young country recovering from a vicious recent history. While it's been inhabited since the 6th millennium BC, colonization throughout the 19th and 20th centuries as well as the brutal Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970's killed millions of Cambodians and had a devastating impact on its cultural and historical spaces. Raul Manzano begins his journey in the capital city of Phnom Penh, while staying and learning more about the rich history and opulent design of Raffles Hotel Le Royal. Raul shares more of the hotel's incredible history, with its General Manager, Mr. Oliver Dudler, and head concierge Sam Nheanika Pann, while Executive Chef Joel Wilkinson tell more about how the restaurant brings classic Khmer food to the present day.
Phnom Penh also focus on cultural recovery and preservation, from the National Museum that houses traces of Cambodia's history since prehistoric times and the biggest cultural attraction of the Royal Palace, down to the vibrant city life with artisanal businesses like Seekers Distillery, the first and only craft gin distillery in the country.
